Telling their Stories and Giving them a voice

Echoes from the Valley (Television show)

We continued to tell the stories of the population we serve through our weekly television show “Echoes from the Valley.” Through the tv show and our social media platforms, we educated the communities we serve and the general public on issues that can impact their ability to operate at their full capacity and attain their full potential. Among issues addressed include mental wellbeing, domestic violence, cultural tolerance, among others. We produced and broadcast a total of 42 original episodes of the tv show, addressing different issues in 2022.

Engage the Community (Town Hall Events)

Virtual Town Hall Event

Some of the after effects of the COVID-19 pandemic is the rise in mental health cases globally. Members of the communities we serve were not left out. News of suicide, self-harm and harm to others made the rounds. We felt culturally structured intervention was needed and set out to find a way to address the issue.

During the annual Conference on the Situation of Women (CSW66), we organized a virtual townhall on March 25, 2022 UN CSW66 with the theme Stress, Depression, Mental Wellbeing and the African Woman. Our guest speaker was Dr. Theddeus Iheanacho, psychiatrist and chair of the Yale University Global Mental Health program. We had in attendance, a total of 118 participants some of who openly shared their experiences and fears.

We Addressed Food Insecurity

We continued to address food insecurity in the Bronx by hosting food distribution outreaches. We also commenced a monthly food distribution on July 30, 2022 in the Village of Elmsford in partnership with “Feeding Westchester.” In the fiscal year 2022, we served a total of 3,408 people .

Orphanage Outreach

One of our major programs in Africa is the orphanage outreach through which we reach out to children in orphanages in Africa. For the 2022 fiscal year, we had outreached in five orphanages in Abuja, Nigeria where we distributed clothing and footwear, school supplies and groceries. We organized an end-of-the-year party for children in one orphanage.
