Who We Are

We are dedicated to bringing an end to social injustice and addressing mental health for marginalized communities by supporting and giving them a voice through our media platforms, championing their cause, equipping them with the necessary information, education, and empowerment with which they can navigate their peculiar situations.

We engage our vulnerable population, identify and address challenges that adversely impact their ability to live quality lives, and advocate for them. We design and implement projects targeted at enlightening and keeping them informed while intervening directly by creating opportunities for empowerment through which they can successfully overcome their challenges.

The media and the arts are the primary and proven effective tools we employ and integrate in all our programs to help the underrepresented communities we serve.

In emergency situations like natural disasters, pandemics, food / water safety, gun violence / mass shootings and protests, to mention but a few, we employ every available means of communication to educate, inform, and enlighten our target population with the goal of limiting the damage in given situations, keeping the peace, and helping save lives.

At Echoes Africa Initiatives, we identify and communicate available resources that help the communities we serve stay safe and well.

We adhere to nonprofit governance best practices, including a Conflicts of Interest Policy, which mandates disclosure of any financial or personal interests and prohibits participation in related discussions or decisions. Disclosures are recorded in meeting minutes, and conflict resolution procedures are strictly followed. Our board meets monthly to oversee activities, governance, and strategic planning, with emergency meetings as needed per bylaws. This, in addition to our needs-based programs has been the bedrock of our ability to successfully implement our programs.

Our Values and Beliefs

Social Impact We strive every day, by the hour, minute and second, to improve the life of just one person. And, over a long term, increase our impact by touching as many lives as we can, and by extension, inspire those whose lives we have touched, to follow suit. If only one mentee ends up becoming a mentor herself, then we term the program, successful.

Build a community We create meaningful connections- with our team, those we serve, our partners and everyone we come in contact within the process of carrying out our activities. One of our objectives with the BEAM project is to help the girls build a community among themselves, develop a kinship, and be one another’s keeper.

Drive Change We drive change by leading the change train- taking the famous advice of Mahatma Gandhi “Be the change you want to see in the world.” We see the gaps in the communities we serve and look for ways to fill those gaps.

Good Stewardship We do not take the opportunity to serve lightly. We take care of all that’s entrusted to us and account for each one.

Excellence We aim at excellence in all that we do. We give our best and strive to always improve ourselves and let others know we expect the same mindset from them. Integrity and service is our attitude.
